JOINING CLUBS, SOCIETIES, AND CLASSES

Clubs and societies are very popular in the Netherlands, and they exist for all sorts of activities. Joining one is an excellent way of meeting Dutch people who share your interests. To find out what is available, look online, go to the local library, or ask at the stadhuis (town hall).

Another good way to make friends is to go to Dutch language classes. Learning even a few phrases will help to smooth the way, and Dutch friends and acquaintances will greatly appreciate the fact that you are trying to fit in. Further education colleges also run courses; these are more expensive but are run to standards set by the government. Check on the Internet for local college details.
